DTU’s Annual
Carp on the fly
Tournament

Since 2007, Denver Trout Unlimited has hosted the CarpSlam, Carp on the fly tournament. CarpSlam is our annual fundraiser for river restoration. It is an internationally recognized tournament to catch and release carp in the Denver South Platte River, which has resulted in over $225,000 going to South Platte River pollution protections and restorations.

What it is

The DTU CarpSlam randomly pairs professional and amateur anglers to compete to catch and release carp on the fly on the Denver South Platte. Landing one of these fish, that can go over 30 inches and weigh over 20 pounds, can take years to master. Amateurs (Slamateurs) fundraise for the DSP for their spot to compete, and are rewarded with a day on the river with a Pro (Slambassador) to learn about our home river, and all things carp.

Why we do it

This fly fishing tournament helps restore the health and habitat of the Denver South Platte River by funding our ongoing restoration projects, our River Cleanup Series efforts, the CTU environmental education program Trout-in-the-Classroom, the installation of Lifetime Angling Access Areas, and our continued fight for pollution protection on our home waterway.

Why you should care

The Denver South Platte is our city’s greatest natural resource. Over the years, it has undergone remarkable improvements. Your contributions through CarpSlam donations and sponsorships have helped the tournament's growth and supporting projects. All donations go directly toward river restoration, pollution prevention, cleanups, and education programs. Our aim is to inspire everyone to envision the South Platte as something more than a flood control project.
