Who We Are
Our ongoing mission is to conserve the Denver South Platte River from Chatfield dam to 120th Avenue. This includes improving the fishery, water quality, river access and fishing opportunities for all.
What is Trout Unlimited, in general?
Trout Unlimited is a US non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of freshwater streams, rivers, and associated upland habitats for trout, salmon, other aquatic species, and people. TU is comprised of 387 chapters across the country and 36 councils. It is headquartered in Virginia and was founded in 1955.
What is DTU?
We are Denver’s Trout Unlimited Chapter 128, focusing on the South Platte River. DTU is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to restore the health of the Denver South Platte. DTU focuses below the waterline, where the health of the river can be observed, measured and improved with environmental pool releases, aquatic habitat, and good design. We engage with Trout-in-the-Classroom programs, university conservation clubs, high school teachers, visitors, authors, team-building, community service and meet-the-river tours. Read more about our Trout-in-the-Classroom programs and Meet-the-River tours here.
Our vision is for the Denver South Platte River to become a healthy, urban river with a multi-species gamefish fishery.
Funding and Projects to Improve the Fishery of the Denver South Platte River
As a non-profit, conservation organization we focus on aquatic conservation, preserving aquatic habitat, and providing aquatic habitat in the Denver South Platte River.
We do not fund the introduction of fish, aquatic insects species, and other biological species.
DTU is committed to a science-based approach to the improvement and management of this fishery.
We use funds from grants, donations, events, and product sales to fund scientific studies, monitor temperature and dissolved oxygen, educate and connect youth with their river and place habitat features in the river.
